Saint Lazare In-home newborn photography session: tiny hands and tiny feet
A true joy day is meeting your baby for the first time. Another joy day is welcoming Montreal newborn photographer Lucy Baum into your home to document your newest family member!
There is something amazingly personal in having an in-home newborn photography session. You value a comfortable experience at home where the whole family is learning a new routine and a new normal - of course with lots of love! These are the moments and the feelings that will transport you right back to those early days, when you look back on your photographs as the years tick by.
In-home sessions are relaxed, and I go by the boss’s schedule - the baby! They are little but they need a lot of a lot of things - changing, feeding, comfort and soothing, cuddles. Where better to do that than in your home, where you feel the most comfortable too?

As a professional, I take my client’s wishes for privacy very seriously. I outline my promises in my Commitment of Excellence, found here. When you decide to work with me, anything you might share as part of the process of working with me is kept in the strictest confidence, and privacy is respected should a client require it. I am always grateful when clients give permission to share their imagery online so that I can show a portfolio of work, but for some, privacy is of utmost importance.
In that case, we can showcase adorable, tiny hands and feet! At every session, I strive to capture little details and it’s quite interesting to see how every baby is different. I have seen ‘new’ feet - smooth and barely a wrinkle, to the wrinkliest of wrinkled little feet and hands! The way the toes curl, the way they splay, little hands grasping bigger fingers, it’s a joy to see the uniqueness and marvel at the tininess. Fair warning, I have been known to pull socks off and it’s especially endearing if there is sock lint between tiny toes. I know, I’m quirky and you may be too!
The family “lightness”
Lightness is a word I made up after contemplating what makes an enduring photograph that is full of emotion, love, connection and that represents the true and unique essence of a family. Something that moves you and can cue ugly-crying. It is a combination of three elements:
Likeness: What you actually look like
Inner light: What makes you beautiful and unique and human
Physical light: Use of light and photographic skill
Where many photographers are capable of taking photographs of likeness, lightness is the superpower that sparks joy and cues ugly-cries. To hit all three for powerful and memorable photographs it takes experience, skillful observation and intuition.
Enjoy fingers and toes!
