A Vaudreuil newborn but not so newborn photo session at magical Champs De Rêves
A true joy day is meeting your baby for the first time. Another joy day is to work with Montreal newborn photographer Lucy Baum at a magical garden space to document your newest family member!
The pandemic changed this from a brand new newborn shoot to a few month old newborn shoot. As conditions were still uncertain for being together indoors, we agreed to meet at Vaudreuil’s Champs de Rêves nursery which has such a beautiful and magical garden and lavender field! We had so much fun running amongst all the colourful flowers and finding hidden spots to photograph in!
An on-location photo session as an alternative to an in-home session allows your family to experience some fun and new places! My clients had never been to this spot and bonus that it had a lot to keep their daughter enthralled!
Vaudreuil newborn photography
While we may imagine that home is best for photographing baby, getting outdoors can be fun too! It was a warm July day and popping a few blankets on the ground still allowed for photos of just baby, as we might take in their crib. Either way, we were in a nursery (pun intended!)
The family “lightness”
Lightness is a word I made up after contemplating what makes an enduring photograph that is full of emotion, love, connection and that represents the true and unique essence of a family. Something that moves you and can cue ugly-crying. It is a combination of three elements:
Likeness: What you actually look like
Inner light: What makes you beautiful and unique and human
Physical light: Use of light and photographic skill
Where many photographers are capable of taking photographs of likeness, lightness is the superpower that sparks joy and cues ugly-cries. To hit all three for powerful and memorable photographs it takes experience, skillful observation and intuition.
