Centennial Park, DDO, Montreal: Goose-bumpy outdoor maternity session
A true joy day is finding out you’re pregnant. Another true joy day (and maybe a little bit of stress day) when you find out you’re having twins!
A big, round, belly with not one but two babies really needs to be commemorated. We are amazing as women to be able to produce such miracles and it’s a wild ride through it all!
Centennial Park DDO maternity photography
This couple braved the cold to be able to have outdoor maternity photos. By this time in November the beautiful Fall leaves were already a bit sparse, but the nice thing about Centennial park is that it has year-round foliage and landscape that can still look beautiful.
Armed with a big winter coat, Isobel’s husband dutifully held onto it when we were taking photographs, and it went over her shoulders the moment we stopped and headed for the next location. There was one advantage - carrying twins was like having a tiny, little furnace inside. Isobel was able to endure the temperature outside a lot longer because her babies kept her warm!
The family “lightness”
Lightness is a word I made up after contemplating what makes an enduring photograph that is full of emotion, love, connection and that represents the true and unique essence of a family. Something that moves you and can cue ugly-crying. It is a combination of three elements:
Likeness: What you actually look like
Inner light: What makes you beautiful and unique and human
Physical light: Use of light and photographic skill
Where many photographers are capable of taking photographs of likeness, lightness is the superpower that sparks joy and cues ugly-cries. To hit all three for powerful and memorable photographs it takes experience, skillful observation and intuition.
Enjoy this photo-story taking a cool stroll through the park and catching some beautiful sunset rays.
