Lucy, Noir. Poutinefest West Island
People who know me know that I love poutine. I’m not sure what it is about the combination of french fries, cheese and gravy, but it’s magical. People who know me may also know that once I hit on something I like, I might have a hard time straying. For example, I love my cafe mocha from Starbucks, and while the other options on the menu or specialty features sound tempting, I usually go to my tried-and-true favourite. Maybe I will miss out on something else just as fantastic, but when I know I’ll enjoy something and it may not happen often, I become risk-averse! Strangely enough, I feel the opposite in my photography; I don’t mind taking risks there at all - so I suppose this balances things?
Such is my relationship with poutine. There are many mouth-watering ways to make this dish, and restauranteurs have gotten quite creative. But when it comes down to it, a traditional poutine can’t be beat!
Le Grand Poutinefest 2019 came to the West Island of Montreal, my childhood and adulthood stomping ground and with a bonus of being a fundraiser for the local hospital. What better way to give back than to dig in….to a poutine?
I did stray beyond my traditional poutine because it was a perfect opportunity to do so. Caramelized onions, tomatoes and a garlic sauce are delicious accompaniments! Thanks to Greg’s Diner for giving me a taste beyond the ordinary poutine. As a bonus for my daughter they had a few carnival games setup and she won a prize That, and the awesome lemonade made her day, so winning all around.
I think it was a great event to bring to our local community and hope to see it again. In the meantime, my mouth has now started watering for le grand macfest!
Noirly yours,
Lucy
