Lucy, Noir. Notre Dame de Lourdes Sanctuary

I'm not religious, but I really love this spot. It is an open-air sanctuary in Rigaud, outside of Montreal. There is the main altar with plenty of benches, where services are held. Then there are walking/hiking paths that take you up the mountain to a small sanctuary and private sitting areas, various saintly statues, a rock field and some ruins.

It's really an incredible place. Winding stone staircases, secret pathways, even a grotto full of flickering candles where people come with their burdens and wish for relief from their sorrows.

It is one of the most peaceful places I know, and every time I go, I can get a different set of photos. It can hold an air of happiness, tranquility and even sombreness, and you can photograph in whichever way your spirit takes you that day. Today, under a threatening sky, a sombre yet tranquil vibe is what I sensed, and what I tried to capture. Until next time.
