Tis what season?
The frenetic pace of society leading up to the holidays. Governments and banks pushing growth. They convince us that consumerism helps us all drive growth for our benefit. But this growth is of material things and not of spirit. And when those things are discarded, what will we have left if we have not grown our spirits?
The top photo was taken in my neighbourhood. Things are no longer meant to last, and cheaper to throw than to fix. The photos below are of a nearby mall that has failed to thrive. Dark, empty spaces....and yet developers just razed the forest right across the street for more shops. Other malls and stores may be teeming with people and things, but when we look into our society's heart - peeking through a little xray box like the Grinch, it may just be that it looks a wee bit like these photos. It made me think of Banky's Dismaland.
p.s. Blockbuster has been closed since 2011.
