Montreal's Best Places for Engagement Pictures | Three incredible spots
back to journal
Engagement sessions are a terrific way to celebrate that you’ve taken the next step in your relationship. You’ve started a journey that kicks off a new chapter in your lives, and it’s all the more reason to start with photographs. Don’t we always take the selfie in the car when we’re about to leave for a road trip? Except this is better. It’s hiring a Montreal engagement photographer (like me, hi!) to document the greatest road trip of your life!
Your engagement session with me will help you understand your wedding photography better and relieve your anxiety about not being photogenic. We all put up our guard somewhere and it’s often when someone tries to take a photo of us. Lucky for you I have a process that naturally by-passes our guard reflex so that I can peek into the real love you are sharing, a place where all guard is down (that’s real love!). That’s the magic we find with engagement photos. You can see what your love feels like. And then we simply do a “to be continued” on the wedding day, and you will be old hats at the whole photo thing.
Here are three places that you can consider for your Montreal engagement photos:
The Old Port of Montreal (I’m sure you’re not surprised)
The Montreal World Trade Centre
The Lachine Canal
These locations are stunning for their own reasons and will fit different styles and aesthetics. But don’t forget meaningful places too! Sometimes your home, or a spot local to you where you go often or where you first met, will make the session all that more memorable. Remember, the engagement session is fully about you and seeing and sharing your love. If the ferris wheel in the Old Port isn’t as meaningful as the trails where you walk your dogs daily, then we know where your engagement session will be!
Hi, I’m Lucy!
a Montreal WEdding, Engagement & Family Photographer
I’m here to photograph your joy, and [hopefully] make you ugly-cry (even if in private or just on the inside!)
My goal is to create posts that help you make a decision when you are searching for your perfect Montreal photographer. Carry on!
The Old Port of Montreal
A Montreal engagement session at the Old Port usually goes about 1.5 - 2 hours, and a session there is always unique because of the endless amazing opportunities that this area provides. I usually meet my couple in a familiar and easy meeting place (like Place Jacques-Cartier) and then we go on a little adventure! Some prefer to stroll the streets and alleys, finding interesting things along the way. Some want to go to the water and all the way to the Montreal Clock Tower, and if brave (and it’s open) get to the very top! Comfortable footwear in a must if you go this route - a quick shoe swap is recommended so please don’t only wear your heels ladies and guys don’t use this opportunity to break in that new rigid pair of shoes! The cobblestone streets while beautiful, can be unforgiving on feet!

The Montreal World Trade Centre
For those who enjoy architecture and symmetry, this spot is for you! The eternity pool is fun to use for reflections of all the lamps and architectural features. I do a full write-up here. Bonus that it’s not weather dependent, but it can get crowded because it’s a popular and beautiful spot. Some of my couples have opted to start or finish their Old Port session here as it’s quite close by.
Lachine canal
A favourite spot in Montreal not only for a great day out, but for an engagement session as well! The Lachine canal is so versatile because there are so many locations along that waterfront to go! Whether you start at Lachine, or wander down towards the Peel basin, you won’t go wrong for variety. Caution that if it’s a windy day, then areas around more open water can be even windier. If that’s a concern, then staying in more enclosed areas can still work.
