Manoir Grant Wedding with portraits at the West Island High School where they met | Samantha + Brian
A fun & lighthearted wedding at Manoir Grant in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield during a heat wave
Manoir Grant is a charming, historic home that has a rich history before it became a wedding reception venue. It has offered the premises for weddings for the last 18 years. It has very pretty landscaping - lots of colourful flowers and at the rear of the property there is a small lake with a fountain! If a casual and rustic wedding matches your wedding vision, it is a good spot to consider.
Are you searching for a wedding venue but Manoir Grant may be too small or rustic for you? Try the more upscale (but still with rustic touches) Auberge des Gallant, or if you were searching for something much more luxe, consider Chateau Vaudreuil as your Monteregie wedding venue.
A nod to nostalgia
Originally, the couple had planned to do all of their portraits at the venue. As we discussed the vision for the wedding during our consultation, I mentioned the importance of designing a day that reflected them and their love and history. A short time later, Sam reached out and asked if it would be too much trouble to make a stop for a few portraits, at the high school where they originally met.
Yes, of course! I loved that they thought about what was important to them, and they wanted to feel and photograph the nostalgia of when they had first met as teens. Life took them their separate ways and the universe reconnected them many years later. That made it all the more meaningful to go back to where the spark first ignited as teenage sweethearts; to when their love story truly began.
Ouff, it was hot!
Montreal has a few heat waves every season, and it’s hard to predict them - some come in early Spring or late Fall where they are least expected. This wedding was in August and we expect hot weather, but that day it was really hot: well over 30 degrees Celsius. In the shade!
Being in a historic house, the air conditioners were on full power, but the ceremony and portraits were outdoors! Before the ceremony we went out quickly and stayed close to the house so that we could run back in to cool off and so that the couple didn’t melt before the nuptials. Luckily the temperature became slightly more bearable after the noon hour, and everyone did a great job of enduring the heat for the sake of awesome wedding memories captured. And the heat is part of that - an unforgettable aspect of their day that will be a fun story years from now: “Remember how hot it was when we got married?”
Here’s to joy,
Lucy
