You may be an expecting parent or a new parent. Maybe it crossed your mind to document this important time in photographs but then your mind starts churning out all the reasons why you can’t. I am here to reassure you that all you have to do is decide and call me, and I will take care of things. Don’t let these things stand in the way of creating the visual legacy of your family.

It's winter and awful outside unless we go to a studio.

No worries! Babies come at all different times of year, but if a formal studio session isn’t your thing, then indoors at your home is cozy and an amazing and meaningful place to celebrate your new family. Especially in the early stages, being comfortable in your own home also makes you feel more relaxed. Home is the place and space where your love shows up every day and where the forging of daily memories is as plentiful as the spit-up and diaper changes! See a winter indoor session here where we also bundled up for some snow photos in the backyard!

The house is MESSY especially with a new baby.

No worries! Besides being able to move stuff (clutter AND furniture), I have photography tricks up my sleeve to minimize unflattering backgrounds, and to use creative framing and angles to advantage. When baby arrives, especially if you have other, small children, housecleaning takes an understandable back seat. But your photo session isn’t an episode of Selling Sunset, where homes are staged to perfection. Your photo session is an honest reflection of your life, and the keyword is ‘enough’. It’s tidy enough, and the rest I take care of!

Our place isn't great. It's small, small windows or just overall not very bright.

No worries! Over a decade as a photographer I've become well versed in using and shaping available light, and creating light! Especially in my wedding photography work, I have very little control over the spaces I step into - small homes, cramped hotel rooms, dark churches and dimly lit venues. Over the years I have worked diligently to find and shape, or create the right light. These are transferable skills for family and newborn photography too! Don’t let your own perception of light deter you from something as precious as your newborn photographs, because it’s the job of a professional to overcome and optimize the most significant tool that we work with. And, my name means light so you are especially in good hands!

We're tired, we don't look our best

Producing a human is no easy feat! It's the hardest yet most rewarding thing we can ever do! That is what is being captured and celebrated - that love, that effort, that commitment to that tiny being. Regardless of how you feel in that moment, when you look back years from now, those photographs will have a special meaning. Also, a photoshoot is an opportunity to shower and get ready so that's a bonus to uplift you! I am also mindful to pose new moms so they feel their best. It's a collaborative process. I am there for you, all the way.

Your future you will thank current you for booking a maternity/ newborn (both!) photo sessions. Reach out to me here or share this post with family or friends who are expecting!

A cleared corner with a chair is all you need for a quiet and tender moment for the camera.

Small details photographed up close eliminate any surrounding clutter and need only a small source of light.

Clever framing misses any mess in the room.

Blankets, throws and bedspreads do a great job to mask unmade beds, or couches full of dog hair!

Come as you are. While you may choose to get hair and makeup done and don a cute outfit, you can equally decide on a casual and comfortable look.

The best time for photos is right now.

1 week old or 10 weeks or 10 years. There is only ever the right time, never a wrong one. Reach out today; I lead and take care of you through the process!
