Why is Jack Layton Park great for engagement pictures in Montreal?
The park is far away enough from Montreal’s core to feel like you’ve transported yourself hours out of the city, but it’s less than an hour (depending of course on where you are in the city!). So what makes this park a wonderful spot to consider for your engagement photos?
The view
Jack Layton park is situated on the bank of the Ottawa River in Hudson, Quebec, and has a beautiful, raised view of the water from its rocky banks. Because of its peninsula, the view is terrific, allowing for a diversity of angles. Sunsets are beautiful here, but even an overcast day like the one featured here, makes for lovely images!
Many different nooks
There is a small beach at Jack Layton Park, although it’s been closed due to the pandemic. Still, a little spot to be able to take a few photographs! There are also several forest trails - wide and easy to walk. I do advise against high-heels though, unless you bring a spare set of comfy shoes for walking from place to place. There are many little water features and wooden bridges. You can get so much variety here!
There is a stone amphitheatre too, as well as pretty landscaping to introduce a pop of colour with some flowers when in bloom. If Fall is your favourite time, then it’s a perfect spot for some incredible colours!
Anytime I’ve been, there has never been a ton of people. If you’d like to consider an engagement session here, I do suggest a weekday afternoon rather than a weekend. There are picnic tables and lots of spots for families, so weekends can get a little more busy and make it a bit more challenging for photography.
There is free parking, the park is clean and well-maintained, and there are facilities - important if you’re driving out of the city and then spending time for a photo session!
I love this gem of a park that is so close to Montreal. It’s not big, but it’s welcoming and beautiful. The rocks and the water views can almost transport you out of Montreal and make it look like you really went somewhere exotic for your engagement pictures!
