Fall Family Session by Lachine Canal near Griffintown

Family posing during their photo session with Montreal Family Photographer Lucy Baum, by a canal near Griffintown, Montreal,

Fall is nature’s way of softening the blow of the coming winter and in Montreal, it’s a blessing as we’re known for brutal winters. As a Montrealer, I dread what’s coming; as Montreal family photographer, I kind of revel in it. There is an odd satisfaction in finding that the backdrop with the perfect mix of colours. Throw in a well-dressed, happy family and well, that might be better that SB’s Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Photos gain importance over time, in a way that’s hard to understand today when we actually have to do them to have them later on. Your future self wants your current self to book something now, so that your future self and your family’s future selves can gather round and look back with fondness and maybe an ugly cry. Reach out and I will make it easy to bring joy to your future selves by photographing your current selves.

You might not believe we weren’t anywhere near the Laurentians for some of these backdrops. We were by the Canal near the Peel Basin. Not far from our beloved Farine Five Roses building. Hardscape and old factory land. We walked around and there are areas of foliage mixed in with industrial. If industrial had a season, this would be it as hues of the orange/ red brick work so well for Fall colours and outfits!

But don’t be fooled by these skillfully-taken photographs, where we seem to have the place to ourselves. Not only did near-gale force winds that day almost take their umbrella (the photo above wasn’t staged!), but we had to artfully duck the cyclists, the adorable toddlers biking in zig zags with their extended families, and the massive number of pedestrians that chose to stay in the city over a trip to the Laurentians for the colourful views. I can prove the wind and the cyclists in the final frame!

Would you like your family to be featured in a setting like this one? Send me a message and let’s go to the Canal! When we’re done, head to Griffintown or Little Burgundy to find a spot for a coffee and a tasty treat, like at Boulangerie Notre-Dame (formerly known as Mamie Clafoutis). You can make it a #joyday and your kids will love the time together. And so will their future selves when they’re not kids anymore!
