Often there is a focus on the bride in wedding planning. But we cannot forget the grooms, who are also on this life journey along with their love, and the important other half of the commitment! Media tends to favour the bride with blogs, magazines and endless inspiration on Pinterest, and the assumption can be that their man either just comes along for the ride without really having too much say, or doesn’t have much of an opinion on the planning of the day at all.

The couples that choose to work with me are both equally implicated in the wedding. During my consult calls, sometimes the groom-to-be talks more than the bride! I have come to learn that they are not only interested in planning their day but also feel strongly about including elements into their wedding day that are important and memorable to them. In my last wedding of 2023, the groom was a traffic engineer and a woodworking hobbyist. He hand-crafted the wedding ring box, and fashioned Montreal street signs for centrepieces! Each featured street had an importance to the couple; their welcome table featuring the intersection of the streets where they had their first apartment.

While it may be true that our guys may not get as wrapped up in the magic and details in the same way that women do, it is still important that we honour their ideas and their choices. Just like the ladies, they extend invitations to the best man and groomsmen who will stand by them, and while their wedding day preparations may not be as meticulous, they are equally joyful, meaningful and fun.

In this spirit I continue my celebration of all Montreal grooms who not only want to be highly involved, but also want nothing but the best for the love of their life, helping her day be as magical as it can be.

Grooms: some of you may have some anxiety when it comes to the photography, especially if you’ve never been in front of a professional camera before. I’m here to tell you that there is nothing to fear. You celebrate, I capture. The work is on me, the fun on you! Take time to plan any rituals or traditions you want to have documented: having your father present, a precious pet, your sports car, your bestie who flew in from Europe, a toast with a special scotch or whiskey, or just putting on a sports game on the tv, some good tunes and getting dressed. It’s your day, your way, and an opportunity for you to look and feel like a million bucks.

Enjoy some “groomspo” - groom inspiration below. These Montreal grooms were all able to set aside any nerves, and simply let go and enjoy their day.
