in the noir of night, lives Lucy the light.

The moth represents co-creative forces of dark and light, a duality that has forever defined me. I use this artistic approach to unlock the power of joy as the main driver of our photographic stories.

My name means light

but there is a noir side. I used to hide it because I'm photographing happy and bright things like weddings and children.

But it's part of who I am.

It gives a subtle but interesting edge to joyful things, which I believe makes those photographs richer. I thrive off of dark movies, have an almost complete Stephen King collection, and love the dark yet dreamily romantic poetry like that of Lord Byron and William Blake. Darkness translates into my photography to shape light and create mood, evoke emotion, and in my signature processing which has depth and dimension. And that’s why the moth represents me well; it lives in the noir of night but is attracted to the light. I publish my personal work under my alter-persona Lucy, Noir.

I STUDIED PSYCHOLOGY
I'm fascinated by the lives of others and love street photography for this reason. This carries into photography because I search for true personalities and interesting and real situations. Add commercial photography studies, a good sprinkle of intuition and over a decade of experience, I tap into those personalities and draw inspiration to photograph your fascinating life.

I’m quirky and I know it.

I often don't sit, but perch. Maybe I was a bird in a former life.
I have a thing for vintage anything.
A dancer all my life, I danced with my daughter at home when she was younger, and now she has surpassed mom as a competitive dancer. I am still a dancer but also a proud dance mom and her biggest fan.
I eat ridged chips one ridge at a time, even if my friends and family make fun of me.

Quirkiness helps my photography because it invites you to embrace your own quirky selves. My toolkit of prisms, twinkle lights, and even pipe hardware lets me create quirk and explore the curious, unconventional and mysterious. I love experimenting with techniques like freelensing and double-exposures to create photography that evokes the nostalgia of my childhood. My dad was the OP — the original photographer, and I chase him and his style in my personal work. One day I’ll repair his original film kit and that may just blow my mind.

I want to be a granny with a camera.

What an indescribable feeling when I ‘see’ the vision for a photograph in my mind’s eye as I work - it’s a rush! Photography sessions have a clock time, yet feel timeless. The zone. I want to stay there forever and I feel this makes me a better and more attentive photographer.

Duality of Light & Dark: An Artist’s Persona

I’m interested in exploring humanity and our surroundings through imagery. Not just how a scene looks, but how it feels to be there. I’m drawn to edges: between light and dark, presence and absence, arrival and departure. The quiet moments. What happens when no one is looking. The space within a photograph where untold elements quietly exist and wait to be uncovered.

Much of this work is shaped by place. Whether photographing a home, a wedding, or a location I pass through while traveling, I pay close attention to how people inhabit space — even briefly. Interiors, thresholds, early light, overlooked corners. The feeling of belonging, or of standing just at its edge.

As a photographer, my eye and perspective are inseparable from the image itself. Every choice — framing, distance, technique — informs the story being told. Sometimes that means working simply and unobtrusively; other times it means introducing a subtle intervention, like a prism or altered focus, to reflect the emotional texture of a moment. The act of photographing becomes part of the narrative.

I’m especially interested in what we leave behind or allow to fall into quiet disrepair; spaces and moments that carry memory, mystery, and traces of human presence. These interests shape my personal work under Lucy, Noir, and they inform how I approach weddings and family photography: observant, intentional, and grounded in real experience rather than performance.
